Museums

The city of Cassino hosts three important museums that are significant points of cultural interest, nationally and internationally. The National Archaeological Museum “G. Carrettoni”, the “Historiale” museum dedicated to Montecassino’s Battle, and the “CAMUSAC”, Museum of Modern Art.

National Archaeological Museum “G. Carettoni”

Even though it was 1962 when the first stone was laid, the Archaeological Museum saw its official opening only in 1980.

Historiale

The Historiale Museum was built in 2004 for the 60th anniversary of Montecassino’s Battle, to honor the fallen soldiers from all the countries, who sacrificed their lives for the triumph of peace and freedom.

CAMUSAC – The Cassino Museum of Contemporary Art

The “CAMUSAC”, Cassino Museum of Contemporary Art, opened in 2013. Its permanent collection hosts 250 works of contemporary artists in an area of 200 m2. The park that surrounds the museum is the scenario of more sculptures from the collection.

Memorial Museum of the Polish II corps on Montecassino

In 2004, the charismatic President of the association “Polish Union in Italy”, Mieczysław Rasiej, proposed to build a small structure dedicated to the memory and aiming at spreading awareness about the Polish II Corps, near the Polish War Cemetery. 

This initiative was later completed by the association “Polish Union in Italy”, in collaboration with the Polish Embassy in Rome.
