The Polish War Cemetery on Montecassino is not only visited by Polish people but also by numerous groups of tourists, pilgrims from Italy and other nations that visit the abbey. The largest part of the foreigners that don’t know Polish history ask questions like “Why is there a Polish War Cemetery on Montecassino?”, “Why were Polish soldiers here in Italy and why did they fight for its liberation?”. The Memorial Museum lets to know the story of the heroism of the Polish soldiers, often forgotten when thinking about the dramatic conditions of Poland during WWII.

The realization of the Memorial Museum/Information Center has involved a considerable organizational and financial effort. The complicated legal status of the cemetery and the surrounding area on which the Museum structure was built, required coordination between various Polish and Italian organizations. The bureaucratic process was long and exhausting but, after obtaining 14 administrative permits, in February 2013 the work started.
