Montecassino natural monument

The territory is well known for its naturalistic importance, which is also a strong touristic attraction, like the Montecassino Natural Monument. Since 2010, it has been managed by the Aurunci Mountains Natural Park. The Natural Monument includes the territories of the Abbey, the Rocca Janula, the Roman theater and the amphitheater, the Polish War Cemetery, the “Sherman Tank Monument”, the Obelisk on “Point 593” and part of Cavendish Road.

The Monument is rich in paths and routes that enable the exploration of the wonderful natural environment, but are also a way to reach memorable places strictly linked to WWII. Among these mountains, the most painful pages of local history were written, regarding the huge loss of population and the irremediable damage to the important artistic and cultural heritage. Today, some theme-based routes linked to the war places are in planning, through an important work of restoration and promotion of the area.
